As the President & CEO of the San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA), Ms. Foust is the leading voice of the business community in San Mateo County and across the Bay Area on issues important to maintaining a strong local and regional economy, attracting and retaining major employers and good jobs, and creating partnerships between business and government to address the critical issues of affordable housing, traffic congestion, mobility improvements, and maintaining a good quality of life. During her tenure as President and Chief Executive Officer of the San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA) in California, Rosanne Foust has accomplished several objectives for the organization, including increasing membership, developing the annual Awards of Excellence to focus on innovation and entrepreneurship and contributing to the advancement of high-speed transit in the area. In addition to serving with SAMCEDA, Rosanne Foust served ten years on the board of directors of the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, including fives years as chair, where she played a key role in the allocation of funds for improving rail, highway and street infrastructure and the investment of $445 million in current transportation projects. For twelve years (2003-2015) she proudly served on Redwood City Council with two terms as vice mayor and a term as mayor (2007-2009). Rosanne Foust has a long history of working on issues related to the health and restoration of the San Francisco Bay including her work on sea level rise issues, restoring Bair Island wetlands, and serving for seven years on the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority as a founding board member representing San Mateo County. |

Carole Groom was elected to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in June 2010, served as President of the Board in 2011 and 2015. Prior to Supervisor Groom’s appointment in 2009, she served nine years on the San Mateo City Council, including two terms as Mayor, and on the San Mateo Planning and Public Works Commissions.
Supervisor Groom’s legislative priorities include expanded access to quality preschool and literacy, improved access to healthcare for all, environmental protection, preservation of County’s parks, and growing the local economy.
Carole serves on on Sam Trans, the County Hospital Board, Air Quality District and California Coastal Commission.
Prior to joining the Board of Supervisors Carole served as Vice President of Mills-Peninsula Health Services. |

Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership | Distinguished Teaching Fellow

Kellie McElhaney is on the Berkeley Haas faculty as a Distinguished Teaching Fellow and the Founding Director of the Center for Equity, Gender and Leadership (EGAL). Launched in November 2017, EGAL’s mission is to educate equity fluent leaders to ignite and accelerate change. Equity fluent leaders understand the value of different lived experiences and courageously use their power to address barriers, increase access, and drive change for positive impact. McElhaney helped develop the equity fluent leadership concept and teaches it across the country and around the world. In 2003, McElhaney founded the Center for Responsible Business, solidifying corporate responsibility as a core competency and competitive advantage for the Haas School. Haas was rated #1 in the world for corporate responsibility by The Financial Times. She received the Founder and Visionary Award at Haas in 2013 for this work. McElhaney wrote a book entitled “Just Good Business: The Strategic Guide to Aligning Corporate Responsibility and Brand.” She writes case studies of companies who are investing in women and equity-fluent leadership (Wal-Mart, Gap, Inc., Boston Consulting Group, Zendesk), and conducts research in the area of equal, pay, conscious inclusion, equity fluent leadership, and value-creating strategies of diversity and inclusion. McElhaney consults and keynotes for Global 1000 companies and organizations all over the world on her areas of expertise, and has a TED talk. She is the mother of two incredibly strong teenage daughters. |

What is happening with the San Mateo County History Museum? Although it is closed right now because of the COVID 19 crisis, Mitch Postel, Museum President, will bring us up to date on the exciting improvements the Museum is making over the next three years. These include the creation of exhibits for its new interpretive center at the Sanchez Adobe Historic Site. At the Museum itself, which is located within the Old Courthouse in Redwood City, it will remake its Entrepreneurs/Innovators Gallery, install a new Natural History Gallery, and the build a three story carriage house as an $11.5 million addition to the Museum. |

New/Old Garden- Vegetables at Filoli

Jim Salyards is the Director of Horticulture at Filoli and is celebrating 25 years at Filoli in 2020. He first joined the horticulture team in 1995, and has risen up the ranks starting out as Sunken Garden lead and serving as Greenhouse Manager for 13 years. As head of the department, he oversees Filoli’s thirteen horticulturists, garden interns and apprentices, plant collections, and designs a rotation of seasonal displays at the garden, including the famed spring bulb program. Jim holds a B.S. and M.S. degrees from UC Davis in plant science and horticulture, respectively. He is passionate about public gardens and all things related to plants and the natural world. |
