Cary Koh President:  Cary welcomed us in his white coat and black bow tie and very shiny shoes—James Bond in casino attire.

Pledge of Allegiance:  Lage Andersen led us in front of a real flag.

Thought for the Day:    Joe LaMariana told us to turn off the news and reflect on why we are really here.  Our Rotary meetings are adult recess!  We should all look forward to Wednesdays and a break for good fellowship away from the depressing events around the world.  And think about donating to the Rotary Foundation because we do such good things at home and abroad.

Visitors:    Tom and Faye Dawdy from the Millbrae Club joined us.  Also present and competing for the longest married couple were Jerry Winges’s spouse Charlene Hsu-Winges (50 years) Jay Miller’s spouse Elise Miller (52 years) and Bobba’s spouse Annapurna Bobba (56 years.)

Sunshine Report:   What a wonderful Christmas Present!!—a brand new Rotarian has joined us and has made a very welcome dent in the average age of our group—at one day old we are thrilled to announce the birth of Mariana Rodriquez yesterday December 11!  We are so happy for you Ana Karina and Raul as you start the wonderful journey as parents.  We have her name tag ready and committee assignments and we hope to see her soon.

New Member:   An official welcome to our new member Marcia Wadell, DDS, brought into the club by Phil Siegle.  Marsha has a long and incredible resume of accomplishments in her professional career as a periodontist and clinical professor in orofacial sciences at UCSF.  She has 3 children, 6 grandchildren and promises to be a great addition to our club.  Get to know her and welcome Marcia!!

Announcements:
  1. Mark Luchessi announced a boatload of birthdays and anniversaries.  See the list!
  2. Charlene Drummer gave us an update on our international project in India for the Tribal Girls’ School and announced a gift of $5,500 toward the project from Annapurna, Bobba’s wife.  What a wonderful gift and thanks to Annapurna and all of the other Bobba family members who have donated so much time and money to this ongoing project.
  3. Cheryl Fama announced the 5th anniversary of 1600 Trousdale, a senior living facility across from the Peninsula Hospital.
  4. Susan Baker, CEO of the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce announced the annual Chamber luncheon meeting to be held January 19 at the Hyatt Regency. She would like to have a Rotary Table present.  Merrick Osborn, an expert on Artificial Intelligence, will be the keynote speaker so get your tickets early.
Entertainment:   Christine Krolik, Liz Buljan and Michelle Guiterrez, founding members of the group “Swing Set,” belted out 3 Christmas tunes:

Jing Jingaling Jingaling Jingaling – (etc.)

Candy Cane Lane – (very sticky)

Old Mister Kringle—Man with a Bag – (of what?)

I think these are the original hits from the 1908 Dick Clark American Bandstand Hit Parade.  Thanks for bringing back these memories for those old enough to appreciate them!

Speaker:   Our speaker was a no-show.  Not finding a chimney, Santa Claus gave up and went to play pickleball at the courts in the park.  Meanwhile, our long awaited gifts  stowed away in his sleigh were the victim of a smash and grab—(it’s a bad neighborhood folks)----and the reindeer were cited and arrested for parking in a handicap space.  All in all, not a good day for Santa, but we had fun anyway!

So don’t show up again until Wednesday January 10 cause there ain’t gonna be no meetings until then!  Have a great Holiday and best wishes from the entire staff at the Rotary High Gear headquarters!!

Our very own Burlingame Rotarian, Mark Lucchesi has started a podcast for the Burlingame Historical Society called "Burlingame is a Small Town." He has interviewed a number of Burlingame Rotarians as well as other prominent folks in our community. You can check out his YouTube podcasts here.
