President Joe called the meeting to order, welcoming Rotarians who were there in person as well as those in cyberspace.
Col. Alden Cunningham then led us in a patriotic pledge to our flag. It was nice to hear it symphonically in unison. A big improvement from the Zoom renditions of the past.
President Joe offered a heartfelt invocation that skillfully segued into useful information on how Rotary International has set up a fund through the Rotary Foundations (TRF). These donations will go to Rotary Clubs in the countries that are taking in Ukrainian refugees who are fleeing their battle-torn country.
All contributions to Rotary's Disaster Response Fund, through 30 April 2022, will be used to support relief and recovery efforts in Ukraine and surrounding areas. Rotary districts that have been affected by the Ukraine crisis will receive priority access to Disaster Response Grants until 30 June 2022.
Disaster Response Grants may be used to provide basic items such as water, food, medicine, and clothing and for providing immediate aid to support refugees of this crisis.

Our Sunshine Report was delivered by Past-President Joe Galligan. He informed us that our good friend Pierre Bouquet was recovering from a terrible fall which left him somewhat broken and bruised. In fact, Pierre was able to join us via Zoom.
Finance Committee member Chris Ramirez delivered a PowerPoint presentation regarding our Club finances. The good news is that despite the challenges of needs vs. fundraising Burlingame Rotary is in good shape. Marilyn Orr provided a brief and informative history of the Make A Difference fund which was created with a generous donation from the late Jay Plank. As Jay wished, this fund provides scholarships to BHS students going to community college.
There were several announcements of upcoming events. A wonderful fundraising event will be held at the home of Christine Krolik on April 30. Space is limited for “Come Fly with Me” so go to our website and signup.
Our Rotary District 5150 Clean-Up Day will be on Saturday, April 9th at Coyote Point. For details and to register go to:
After a bit of fellowship, we were treated to Newscast+ where Fritz Brauner caught us up with entertaining trivia. Who knew that there were so many Irish factoid to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
It was then time to move on to our program.
Christine Krolik introduced our speaker,
Sally Meakin. Surprised there were dinosaur bones found on the Peninsula? Sally, a lifelong resident with a strong interest in its history, presented a slideshow with representative images of nature’s landscaping from about 100 million years ago to about 150 years ago in the Burlingame/Hillsborough area. She also had slides of historic homes of the distant past in Hillsborough. For this fascinating presentation watch the recording of our meeting.
President Joe then presented her with a certificate noting that we would be donating five polio vaccinations in honor of her appearance.
