Frances Boscacci took the mic to deliver her inspiring thoughts from 13th Century Francis of Assisi.
Fellow Rotarians,
Let’s remember to be instruments of peace.
Where there is hatred, let us be the ones to sow love and friendship.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith and confidence.
Where there is darkness, light and
Where there is sadness, Joy.
Rotarians, let us seek to
Console rather than to be consoled
To understand rather than to be understood
To love rather than to be loved
For it is in pardoning that we are pardoned and
It is in giving that we receive.
Phil then called for visiting Rotarians. Bob Gutgsell, a member of the Peninsula Starlight Club and Assistant District Governor, introduced himself. Steve Wright, from the Pacifica Club, is our District Governor.
Phil then recognized those Burlingame Rotarians who had joined his President’s Club. He thanked Bobba Venkatadri, Bill Tiedeman and Mark Johnson. Joe La Mariana informed Phil that he was actually the first to join. Not mentioned were two who quietly made the donation, Mike Heffernan and Julius Aires.
Jerry Winges took the stage to conduct another “Get to Know a Rotarian” He asked Mark Johnson to join him. This interview uncovered that Mark joined the Club in 1980, at the tender age of 25, after arm twisting by his sponsor, Ted Kruttschnitt. Mark served as Rotary President 1986-87. Jerry commented on Mark’s reputation for being late to meetings. On the subject of women being admitted into Rotary, Mark felt it was long overdue and a very positive change.
Upcoming events were announced. Our Centennial Gala will be held on January 30, 23025 at Kohl Mansion. We still need volunteers for Burlingame on the Avenue. And our Annual Golf Tournament will be Monday, September 30 at Green Hills Country Club.
