President Phil Siegle called the meeting to order and then asked Joe La Mariana to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. He then invited Rabbi Jay Miller to come forward and deliver his invocation.
Jay shared thoughts on a book by Reverend Malcolm Young, now the Dean of Grace Cathedral, about Henry David Thoreau's spiritual journey, emphasizing Thoreau's focus on personal journaling over published works
Phil then asked for visitors to be introduced. Jennifer Pence introduced her husband, Adam Feder and our speaker, Elene Terry. Bret Johnson, friend and neighbor of the Krolik’s was in attendance for his third visit.
Fritz Brauner took the stage to present a $6,000 check to CALL Primrose, which Terri Boesch, the executive director, accepted. Terri explained that CALL Primrose serves 700 unduplicated households monthly and has seen an increase in demand due to the cancellation of federal food assistance funds.
Program:
Elene Terry, a technologist at Meta, was introduced as the guest speaker. She shared her experience working in the semiconductor industry and emphasized the importance of mentoring women in tech.
Elene discussed the evolution of semiconductor technology and its impact on augmented reality devices, using examples from her work at Microsoft and Meta. She demonstrated how the number of transistors in GPUs increased from 700 million in 2007 to over 100 billion today, while the physical size of devices decreased significantly. She highlighted the challenges of creating compact augmented reality headsets, including compute power and thermal management, and showed how innovations in semiconductor design have enabled advances in both AR glasses and AI data centers.
Elene discussed the rapid acceleration of technology and emphasized the importance of preparing people for future innovations, ensuring access to technology for everyone, and using AI as a tool for both personal and professional development. She highlighted the collaboration between Meta and Ray-Ban to develop glasses that integrate AI, and she shared insights into the scaling of transistors and the future of computing. Elene also addressed the ethical implications of technology and the need for critical reasoning skills in navigating the digital world.
