After ringing the bell to call the meeting to order, President Doug Person asked Col. Alden Cunningham to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Doug then delivered the Invocation reciting the 17th Century Nun’s, a reflection on aging, humility and patience.

Lord, you know better than I know myself
that I am growing older and will someday be old.
Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking
I must say something on every subject and on every occasion.

Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's affairs.
Make me thoughtful but not moody, helpful but not bossy.
With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all,
but you know Lord that I want a few friends at the end.

Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details;
give me wings to get to the point.
Seal my lips on my aches and pains. They are increasing,
and love of reciting them is becoming greater as the years go by.

I dare not ask for grace enough to enjoy the tales of other's pains,
but help me endure them with patience.
I dare not ask for improved memory,
but for a growing humility
and a lessening cocksureness when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others.

Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.
Keep me reasonably sweet;
I do not want to be a saint - some of them are so hard to live with -
but a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil.

Jennifer Pence circulated a card to send to Alan and Charlene Drummer. Alan is now in hospice care. We send our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time for the Drummer family.

“Don’t Miss This”

Jay Miller did his show case of an article from the January issue of the Rotary magazine. He added a twist. Before he revealed his choice, he offered cookies to the Rotarian who could guess the page of his selection. A few numbers were thrown out but no one won the treats.
Jay chose to highlight page 20, which told the story of Rotary Action Groups.

Our spring fundraiser will be Burlingame’s Got Talent to be held Sunday, April 19, 2026. The committee will meet right after lunch.

Nimisha Melag, whose daughter is a member of Gen Z, educated us in the current vernacular of that generation. She provided us with a trivia contest on expressions. I don’t think anyone did particularly well. But we’re now a bit savvier.

Program:

Our very own Jonnie Dukes enlightened us in the benefits and details of homebrewing beer. He explained the brewing process, emphasizing the importance of sanitation and temperature control. He described adding hops after boiling for bittering, cooling the wort to 70 degrees for yeast addition, and allowing the yeast to consume sugars over two weeks to create alcohol. Jonnie also covered the history of beer, distinguishing between lagers and IPAs, and explained methods for carbonating beer using sugar or carbonation drops. He demonstrated using a refractometer to measure alcohol content and emphasized the importance of proper sanitation throughout the brewing process.

We look forward to sampling the finished product when it has completed the aging process. Thank you, Jonnie.
