Don’t forget our Rotary Golf Tournament at Green Hills on September 30. We need tee sponsors and players so be thinking of those you know who can support our major fundraiser of the year. Waymo has donated $5,000 to the event to help our Club sponsor scholarships!
The 100th Anniversary committee is working hard on the plans for this major celebration to take place in January. If you have something to contribute, please contact Christine Krolik or President Phil.
The Rotary Foundation event aboard the USS Hornet is happening on October 12. See Joe La Mariana for details and tickets or go on-line to the Rotary District 5150 website.
Susan Baker thanked the many Rotary Club members (so many of you!) who helped out at the recent Burlingame on the Avenue event. Thanks to all who volunteered to make another successful event and gather all those wonderful $ tips to help our club.
Program:
Lisa Goldman introduced Police Chief Mike Matteucci who has been with the Burlingame Police Department since 1991, rising recently to Chief in record time.
Mike gave us a rundown on crime statistics over the recent years that show a remarkable trend of decline in almost all crime types. The 2024 current monthly averages versus prior year’s monthly averages are surprisingly low as follows:
Mary’s presentation was extremely educating and attached below are highlights:
Residential Burglaries: 1 (5 in 2015)
Thefts from Vehicles: 19 (32 in 2015)
Stolen Vehicles: 5 (10 in 2015)
Package Thefts: 2 (4 in 2020)
Catalytic Converter Thefts: 1 (6 in 2020)
Commercial Burglaries: 1 (8 in 2015)
Robberies: 0 (1 in 2015)
Monthly arrests (all categories): 40
Mike talked about the new Automated License Plate Readers having a positive impact and urged us to continue calling BPD if any suspicious activity is observed.
The BPD web site is very helpful in showing all recent police activity, crimes locations, arrests, citizens services (where you can pay your parking tickets!,) crime prevention tips and other very important information. Go to: Burlingame.org, click on the police department tab to access all statistics and help.
Thanks to Mike for an enlightening presentation! We are in good hands!
