President Jerry Winges began our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Dan Conway. He also recognized two guests, who were welcomed heartily by our friendly Rotarians. They were Mia Compen and Jacob Nava-Coulter.

There will be a Happy Hour Social Event on Tuesday, July 28th from 5PM-7PM at the home of Emily Matthews.
A variety of interesting District 5150 events are upcoming, including a fundraising workshop on July 31, a Toastmasters event on August 1, a seven-week speechcraft workshop starting August 21, and a RYLA camp visit day on August 4.

The Club’s International Service Committee will meet on Friday, July 24, at 4:00 pm at the Green Hills Country Club. We have six projects in India and a new project in Mexico. All are welcome to attend this too.
There is an Age Well Health Fair in Burlingame on August 8.
Our club will host a beer and wine booth at Burlingame on the Avenue on August 15-16.
Jerry also highlighted a number of current Rotary Members who have joined the President’s Club service circle. These generous members have donated at least $150 to our philanthropic fund since Jerry assumed his leadership.

Palcare CEO, Dr. Lisa Kiesselbach gave an interesting overview and update on the local childcare facility Palcare, a Burlingame institution since 1993. Initially the facility was formed through funding and support from the San Francisco Airport community to serve the children of people who worked at the airport. That remains its primary mission, though it is also open to others in the community.
Via an interesting and heart warming slide show, Rotarians learned of the childcare needs of these workers and how Palcare has addressed those needs. The content also touched upon broader themes of place and the need for community-serving child-facing services in our modern world.
Palcare CFO, Jacob Nava-Coulter announced a capital campaign starting in September, to expand Palcare’s services even further, with updated and expanded facilities. Those interested in supporting Palcare or learning more should visit their website, www.palcare.org .
Dan will discuss the great promise and peril related to cryptocurrency in light of his own intense experience in the early days. He will explain how crypto is broadly misunderstood and also how a person interested in advancing human progress -and making some money- should look at it.
