A small number of Rotarians gathered at Burlingame High School as guests of the Italian Exchange Program.  President Cheri began the meeting and asked Colonel Alden Cunningham to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  We all turned our eyes to the windows facing the flag in front of the school.

Invocation:
Cheri shared a bit of the activities of our Rotary club with the staff and students gathered.  She then asked Marilyn Orr to read the Rotary Four-Way Test to those assembled.

Guests:
Tom and Faye Dowdy from the Millbrae Club joined us.  And for his third visit we had Reed Thompson as a guest, as well.

Announcements:
President Cheri reminded us of the importance of completing and returning the survey that was handed out at the last meeting.  A “soft” copy will be mailed to all members.  She also told us to expect a new fun initiative at meetings where we will highlight members and learn a bit more about our fellow Rotarians.

Awards and Recognitions:
The Rotary Club of Burlingame was presented with an award for its long-time support of the school and its programs.  President Cheri accepted it on the Club’s behalf.  Awards were also given to Rotarian and School Board member Marc Friedman and to Mary Rogren for their continued support of this exchange program. Burlingame High School Principal and Rotarian Paul Belzer thanked our club again for our commitment to the school.

BHS Italian Exchange Program:
This is the 20th year of this program.  The school, its students, faculty and parents welcomed 44 Italian students from the Liceo Fanti in the town of Carpi, Italy.  Signora Wemple gave a short presentation about the success of this exchange program and its positive impact on both the foreign students as well as the BHS students.  We were then treated to an Italian song, Comunque Andare, sung by one of the Italian students.  Exchange student Filippo Pavarotti then thanked all the teachers and staff for their support over the past few weeks.  He expressed a special gratitude to the parents who hosted them and treated them like their own children.

The event ended with a group photo of all 44 students in front of the school.
