President Cary Koh came to the stage for the last time. He asked President-elect Phil Siegle to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Cheryl Fama came forward to deliver her Thought of the Day. As this was Cary’s last meeting, he was the topic.
It’s an honor to be asked to provide opening remarks for our Club’s activities on this special day – the last meeting of our distinguished, accomplished, classy President - Cary Koh. (Not sure how many years ago it was, Cary, but I remember turning to you at a meeting and saying – “You would make a terrific president” and you have….beyond whatever comes after terrific!)
On your watch:
Seven new members came on board, 6 or whom are women! Great progress in getting membership to align more with the community demographics…….Alan you’re a terrific addition too!
Rotary is now more visible to and supportive of the Burlingame Community by meeting at the Rec. Center and enjoying catered lunch from a favorite Burlingame Avenue restaurant – No more San Mateo and right next door to the Lions’ den.
Your committees have ROCKED in getting speakers, putting on fun events, recruiting Rotary funding support for the Club’s international school project, and getting the Club out there and involved in community events.
As a result, the Club’s activities were recognized by Rotary District 5150 with five Club Excellence Awards this year. The most I can recall in my 16 years of membership.
And did you know there is a Cary Rotary Club in N. Carolina? When I saw that I thought he was leaving us to assume the presidency at “his” club!
I’ll stop here on Cary’s presidency as I’m sure the Debunking Team will have so much more to say. Let’s reflect on today, June 26.
There were a few announcements and reminders. Our major fundraiser, the Annual Golf Tournament at Green Hills Country Club, will be on Monday, September 30. We need golfers and sponsors. We will be dark for the July 4th holiday week. See you all on the 10th of July.
Cary then called for the introduction of visiting Rotarians and guests. It was wonderful to see the infrequent attendee, Ted Kruttschnitt, who introduced his wife and former member Alexia. JerryWinges was accompanied by his wife, Charlene Hsu-Winges. For her second visit Soah Hsu joined us.
Past-president Mark Johnson took over the meeting. He introduced long-time Debunking Slide Show Host, Jerry Winges.
Below is a link to the PowerPoint slideshow highlighting Cary’s rise to stardom. It may take a bit to download but is worth the time.
At the conclusion of the program, Mark presented outgoing President Cary with his plaque and past-president pin. And he received the traditional send-off……attack with silly string.
