Let’s Review What Happened Last Week:

Last Wednesday our meeting began with invocation from Father Michael.  Our program consisted of a newscast from the Newscast Committee chair, Fritz Brauner.  The first part of the newscast demonstrated that it has hard to funny when you don't have any prepared material.  Once Fritz gotten to his prepared materials, the laughs began.  Fritz demonstrated how hard our newscasters work to entertain us.  Fritz and Bob Doerr presented our program - videos and discussion on the uses of artificial intelligence and retailers without checkouts.

At the meeting we were joined by Pennie Lundberg on her second "guest of the club" visit and Chung Li & Bryan Neidar for their first "guest of the club" visit.

2019 Community Service Initiatives:

Your Burlingame Rotary Board approved two new exciting community service initiatives for the first half of 2019:

1) Rebuilding Together/Rebuilding Together Peninsula/Gatepath - Burlingame Rotary will be underwriting and taking the lead on a project at the Gatepath facility on Stanton Road that will be completed on National Rebuilding Day - Saturday, April 27th.  National Rebuilding Day, formerly known as Christmas in April, is a program coordinated by Rebuilding Together (www.rebuildingtogether.org) through its affiliate Rebuilding Together Peninsula (www.rebuildingtogetherpeninsula.org) where numerous projects are completed throughout the country.
Our project will be to paint 8 rooms in the Gatepath facility on Stanton Road and build planters for the to surround the facility.  We will be underwriting the cost of the materials.  Additionally, we will be organizing and providing the people to complete the project.  To complete this project it will take a team of at least 50 people.  Burlingame Rotary will be recruiting members to that team from our club, spouses, friends, colleagues from your workplace and students from local schools.  Our Community Service chairs, Cheryl Fama and Sheryl Young will be coordinating our efforts and the recruiting of team members.
For now, we ask that you save the date, Saturday April 27 and begin to ask your spouses, friends and colleagues if they would like to join us for a day of hands-on community service.

2) CALL Primrose - Every new client for CALL Primrose's food pantry service receives a welcome bag.  This welcome bag contains information on the services CALL Primrose provides as well as a collection of travel size toiletries.  These toiletries are shampoos, conditioners, soap and lotions that donors collect from hotels they visit. Our project is to gather and collect these toiletries over the first two months of the year, and then at the end of February compile welcome bags that CALL Primrose can provide new clients.  At every meeting in January and February, we will have a collection box for you to onate travel size toiletries that you collect from hotels you visit or purchase at our local drug stores.
