Sunshine Reports:
It was announced that the brother of our DeliaMontano passed away. A card was circulated. Our hearts go out to her.
Jennifer Pence then shared that our veery own Phil Magic has begun posting short videos of our Club meetings and events on TikTok. We were treated to one filmed at our post-meeting community project where we filled 800 dental kit bags for Sonrisas. See below.
Phil invited Christine Krolik to come forward to introduce our speaker. Stephen Muterspaugh is the Executive Artistic Director of Hillbarn. This local community theater is a hidden gem. It actually began in 1940 and was situated in San Mateo. T. Jack Foster donated land in the newly developed Foster City in 1968. This has been the company’s home since then.
Stephen explained the four types of theater. Hillbarn falls between the community and regional category. They are the 6th longest continually producing theater in the country. He shared the current lineup for this, their 84th season. We then got to see the list of the six productions for the 2025-2026 season.
In addition to the plays and musicals for the public, Hillbarn is a conservatory serving over 500 students a year. He shared the challenges of putting on the various productions from the many steps to opening night and the financial aspects of Hillbarn. Annual revenue is derived from 80% ticket sales and 20% from grants and donations.
Don’t miss these great productions in their 85th Season lineup.
President Phil closed out the meeting, thanking Stephen for his appearance. He presented him with a certificate noting that the Club will be donating five polio vaccinations to mark his visit.
