We’re Really Cookin’ now…
Frances Boscacci led us in the pledge and Jay Miller shared thoughtful words on the sacred celebration of Ramadan which is one of the most important dates on the Muslim calendar. President Elect-Nominee Jerry Winges’ update on our club’s International Project included a heartwarming video of the International Project Committee’s visit to rural India to engage with the students at the school that we’re improving. The computer labs and restrooms that we funded provided a meaningful difference in the the girl’s educational (and life) trajectories. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Jerry reported that there were now three projects and $719k had been raised. Extraordinary efforts by all involved.

Announcements:

Peter Comaroto shared San Piero Olive Oil’s new product packaging as a follow up to his recent presentation to our club. These products can be purchased at www.sanpierotrading.com.

President-elect Doug Person and Joe La Mariana introduced a new club concept called “Happy Dollars”. Happy Dollars give club members an opportunity to share great news with our membership while kicking a few bucks into our coffers. It’s a fun, painless way to raise some bucks for our worthy causes. Don’t be bashful!

Program:

Kitchen to Career: Chef Timothy’s Recipe for Culinary Success & Community Impact

Chef Timothy Tucker, Director of Culinary Training, gave a truly moving introduction to the Salvation Army’s mission to create viable job pathways for those who need a helping hand. How cool is that? This transformative San Francisco-based 10-week program teaches tangible job skills for use in commercial kitchens, but it does sooooo much more. Students also learn critical life skills and receive valuable coaching from guest chefs like Thomas Keller and program staff. They also experience tours of high-end kitchen facilities; community gardens; and they can join in on Friday meal service for those in need.

Program participants can work towards eight different certificate tracks while building their resumes and professional networks. The program provides important job placement services and has quite a track record of success with the successful graduates.

This program has been widely featured in all types of local and national media and is being replicated in other markets.

This feel-good meeting reminds us why we’re Rotarians. It was one for ages!

President Phil thanked Chef Timothy and presented him with a certificate indicating that our Rotary Club would be donating five polio vaccinations in her honor.
