Rotary High Gear 2019 - 2020
President Cheri Carr
November 6, 2019
President Carr called the meeting to order and asked Bob Doerr to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Invocation / Thought For The Day: President Carr shared some thoughts about Public Service from Nelson Madela, "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived it is the difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead."
Mahatma Gandi said, "Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow men."
Woodrow Wilson inspired us with the words..."
"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand."

Visiting Rotarians: no visiting Rotarians

Speaker: Lisa Goldman, Burlingame City Manager
Our own Lisa Goldman gave a dazzling presentation on all the latest projects happening in Burlingame now and in the near future anad the costs involved. Some of the projects she outlined include: Burlingame's New Community Center at Washington Park called Pavillions in the Park.
Broadway Grade Separation: #1 worst grade crossing in California, and the cost is prohibitive. Burlingame is working with CalTrain and Transportation Authority to fix it.
The Village at Burlingame's Lot F & N: Lot F on the Southside of Howard Avenue will have 132 affordable living units, 74 units for service personnel and 54 senior living units.
Lot N - will be a new parking structure adding 162 stalls and 22 EV stalls, and will be a 5 story structure.
TopGolf is coming to Burlingame: The fancy driving range/Bar/Restaurant/Games center will come to Burlingame and will include meeting rooms. Fun for all.
Post Office - 22 Park Road: Sares Regis Group is working with the owner to build condos and retail with a small public plaza on Lot E. Finally! The Post Office lobby will be preserved with it's Park Road facade as it is a historical building.
Burlingame Point: Facebook's Oculus has arrived and will occupy 767,000 square feet of office space as of summer 2020. The increase in traffic will be offset by carpooling, buses, shuttles from Millbrae BART station. San Mateo is working on possible southbound lanes for Peninsula Avenue...very controversial.
New Hotel at 1499 Bayshore Highway: Will have a rooftop lounge, 404 rooms, a signature restaurant, conference and meeting space, and was approved Sept. 2019.
Adrian Court: Summerhill development will build a 7-story building with 265 Units, including 3700 square feet of commercial offices.
For more information, Lisa tells us to go to www.Burlingame.org
