Invocation
Perseverance is the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.  It is the steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, it is a state of mind, especially in spite of obstacles. "Grit is that ‘extra something' that separates the most successful people from the rest. It's the passion, perseverance, and stamina that we must channel in order to stick with our dreams until they become a reality." Travis Bradberry

Visiting Rotarians
Suan See Yap was visiting from District 3300 in Malaysia. Her Club is 90 years old and is heavily involved in the community providing free dental care for children 6 to 12 years old. Suan and President Cheri exchanged Club banners.

President Carr held an impromptu “Ticket” Auction item. Member Maki Koboyashi graciously donated his “CENTER SEAT - FRONT ROW” ticket for Walter Isaacson for the san Mateo Speaker Series. The lucky taker was Charles Voltz.

Guest Speaker: Member Chris Ramirez introduced Speaker for today, Michele Beasley. Michele was born and raised in San Mateo County and has dedicated her career to creating sustainable and equitable communities. Prior to becoming the Executive Director of the San Mateo County Parks Foundation in 2015, Michele spent 11 years as Greenbelt Alliance's Regional Director in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. She has worked as an advocate for the homeless in Contra Costa County and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana supporting eco-tourism efforts in the last nineties. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Saint Mary's College of California.
With the aid of visuals, Michele shared her adventures in Ghana in the Peace Corps. She reminded us that in 1957 Ghana was the first Sub-Sarahan African County to get its Independence. She shared her experiences with the friendly people of Liati Wote village who welcomed her and made her feel at home during her stay. She shared how beautiful the country is with its waterfalls and how the historic site of the area is both interesting and overshadowed by the slave trade which began in the area. She stayed with two sisters and their children and loved her tour. The area is also famous for its butterflies and poisonous snake. One fun fact was that all the buses are named and one she regularly took was called "The Bill Clinton' Bus. After answering a number of questions from the Club, President Cheri presented Michele with a Certificate to let her know 5 children will receive Polio shots in her name.

Closing Remarks:  Choosing to make an impact “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life” – Steve Jobs
